Atomium Culture brings together some of the most authoritative universities, newspapers and businesses in Europe in the first Permanent Platform for European Excellence within the fields of research, innovation and its dissemination.
Atomium Culture was founded in recognition of Europe’s decreasing research and innovation capacity, with the awareness that, in order to create the incentive to move forward, the main stakeholders need to come together actively in promoting the creation of a knowledge society.
The Permanent Platform promotes active measures to increase dynamic interactions and to foster a strong and reliable nucleus for this at a European level. After four years of coordinated and confidential work among the participating actors, on the 27th of November 2009, Atomium Culture is hosting its first conference and public launch.
The theme of the conference will be: The Permanent Platform for European Excellence of Atomium Culture: the need for thinking in new ways with regard to European research, culture and innovation In light of the European challenges shared by the actors engaged, the aim of the conference is to promote a joint debate on how to further develop Atomium Culture, that engages in a joint platform the three core pillars for the development of a knowledge society.
A knowledge society depends for its growth on the production of new knowledge and its transmission through education (universities), its dissemination through reliable information and communication (newspapers), and its use through new industrial processes (businesses). Among others, the conference will bring together the European leaders and the main representatives of the participating actors.
Delegates of the European institutions and politics will be present, of which those of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the future Spanish Presidency. All these actors have come together to take an active step to promote the development of a strong and dynamic Europe; to look at our strengths and work at our weaknesses; not to debate about the problems, but to develop a coordinated realistic solution.
